Resource Movement is up and running!

Updated: Jun 1

Hi folks,

Pascale and Safa here! We are the new regional organizers for Resource movement, and we are so excited to work with you all over the next few months. As people who are deeply involved with grassroots social justice movements, we understand how needed this work is and how impactful it will be. Resource Movement has the potential to make a difference to so many people and movements that are working towards equitable distribution of land, wealth, and power.

During our mandate, we’ll be doing three things: creating popular education materials for Resource Movement’s membership, building up leadership and clarity within the local chapters in Toronto and Montreal, and developing a national organizing strategy in consultation with social justice movements.

To achieve those second two goals, we’ll be organizing a series of events over the coming months:

  • An internal consultation with local Resource Movement members in each city, to clarify local organizing priorities, talk about long-term strategy, and identify chapter leaders to help carry the work forward.

  • A second consultation with organizers who are playing leadership roles in social justice movements, in order to get their input on Resource Movement’s overall mission and plans. We’re looking forward to thinking together about strategic priorities, and hopefully forming an advisory committee to provide ongoing feedback as we put our plans into action.

  • A third and final consultation (for now), bringing together our local chapter leaders and social movement advisors. At this meeting, we’ll share how our thinking has evolved following the first two consultations, and identify shared priorities to form the basis of an organizational action plan.

We’ll be taking on some big challenges… and we’re excited to work on them together while getting to know each other and building community! In the meantime, here’s a little more about each of our backgrounds (more details at the bottom of this page):

Pascale Diverlus (pascale@resourcemovement.org) is a co-founder of Black Lives Matter - Toronto, and has considerable experience in curriculum development, public education and direct action coordination.

Safa Chebbi (safa@resourcemovement.org) is co-founder of the Coordinating Table on Systemic Racism – Quebec. She helped coordinate the 2016 World Social Forum in Montreal, and comes to us with deep expertise in program planning, community consultation, and project coordination.

Please stay in touch about news and upcoming events (you can sign up for our newsletter at the bottom of this page) - we look forward to connecting with you soon! And of course, if you have any questions or comments about our work, please don’t hesitate to write to either one of us.
